August Family Weekend Getaways In La Conner

family weekend getawaysSummer is all about family activities – and La Conner is the perfect place for  family weekend getaways in August! Here are some suggestions … you can find lots more information and ideas on our online calendar.

La Conner is centrally located in the beautiful Skagit Valley – stay with us and then venture out each day to a new and fun adventure.

Family Weekend Getaways – Trip Planning

August 1st is the annual Pioneer Picnic in Pioneer Park (adjacent to the Rainbow  Bridge). Everyone is welcome to enjoy a salmon lunch, music by Hugo’s Accordion Band and award presentations;  this year the Skagit County Pioneer Association recognizes the Summers Family as “Family of The Year” and Bill Mitchell for “Pioneer Spirit” award.

If you love boats and cars and all things shiny and restored, you’ll love the La Conner Classic Boat and Car Show on August 10th: This family-friendly event offers something for everyone and is located right downtown in La Conner and along the waterfront. You’ll have an opportunity to share in our American heritage, whether you love classic yachts, working boats, classic cars or show cars. This is a fabulous opportunity to discover true treasures – afloat, on wheels, or simply on display! There’s a pancake breakfast, raffle drawings, vendors, a chance to vote on your favorites, and lots of fun all day long. If you have a classic car or boat that you’d like to exhibit, or you’d like to be one of our vendors, we have application forms online on our Love La Conner website.

Do you love county fairs? Well, you’re in luck because the Skagit County Fair August 7th-10th is one of the best fairs in the Northwest. This annual award-winning county fair, located in Mount Vernon, is a fun event for the whole family – join us this year for a “Hometown Hoedown”.  Great Local Entertainment, Carnival, Farm Animals, Displays, Kid Zone Events and more. Because this is a highly-attended event and parking is at a premium, we suggest you consider using Skagit Transit. You can drive from La Conner into Mount Vernon, park at the Skagit Transit Station (105 E. Kincaid), and take Skagit County bus route 208 north. The bus leaves Skagit Station every half hour and arrives at the Fair about two minutes later. If you’d rather drive to the fairgrounds, you’ll find it at 1410 Virginia Street, Mount Vernon WA, 98273.

This year’s presentations include Hamlet and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Bring a picnic lunch, lawn chair and perhaps a blanket but – no dogs, please.
