Weekend Getaway for Couples – La Conner’s Art Scene

Weekend Getaway for Couples – Itineraries

This summer, on July 6th, Skagit Valley Art Escape brings art into the streets. There are free activities in La Conner, Anacortes and Edison including art walks, musical performances and art demonstrations. July 6^th  from 5pm-8pm Art Escape finds its home in La Conner – with live music at the Museum of Northwest Art and galleries open until 8pm. If you want to enjoy both days – July 5 and 6, La Conner makes a great central location for lodging; you are 2o minutes from the Anacortes Art Escape on Friday night and a 25-minute drive through the gorgeous Skagit Valley to Edison on Saturday.

Then, on July 20-21 Skagit Artists Together presents their 10^th annual Studio Tour throughout the Skagit Valley. Spend time with prize-winning artists and skilled crafts-people; you’ll find seventeen studios of the twenty-nine artists on display.  “Open Studios” allows you to meet the artists at work – be sure to ask the artists where they find inspiration and how they achieve their finest creations. Some artists will also be demonstrating techniques in fiber arts, painting, ceramic and glass.

Studios will be open both days from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. There’s no admission charge and the routes will be indicated by roadside signs. Here’s a link to the tour guide map of participating artists/studios. For more information, see the SAT website.

Along with these two interactive events, take time to stroll through our many art galleries to view local, regional, national, global, and historic art in its many forms. Be sure to also visit our three highly-respected museums – the Northwest Museum of Art, the La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum, and the Skagit County Historical Museum. They’re all within a 3-block walk of each other; they are easy to get to either by car or by walking and you’ll enjoy the many beautiful and historic neighborhoods of La Conner on the way.
