Where the daffodils are Dandy and the Dress is Tweed

daffodil_ride_2016The La Conner Daffodil Festival has been a huge success and the beautiful fields of yellow
have been very cooperative! The festival runs the entire month of March and is capped off
with the “Dandy Daffodil Tweed Ride on Saturday March 26th.

What is a “Tweed Ride” you ask?  A tweed ride is a return to a bygone era in England when families would dress in their best clothing, assemble a picnic lunch, get on the train with their bicycles and go out to the countryside. Riding their bicycles home.

What would be better than a group ride among fields of daffodils (and tulips) in which the cyclists dress in classic tweed or any smart looking outfit? Any effort made to recreate the spirit of yesteryear is also always appreciated and any and all bicycles are acceptable on the Tweed Ride. It’s a smashing way to throw a party for all our cycling friends to celebrate the arrival of spring.

Riders should expect a scenic route enjoyed at a slow pace, stops along the way with exceptionally evocative atmospheres, and plenty of time to socialize with other well-dressed, convivial cyclists.

The 13 mile route will begin in La Conner at the Channel Lodge (10am Sharp) and meander through the valley with plenty of stops for pictures and a picnic at Rexville Grocery, this great adventure shall conclude around 2pm back at the Lodge. Not-so-coincidentally in close proximity to Hellam’s Vineyard where the hobnobbery and other diversions await.

The cost to partake in such fun and delight is only $10.00, you can register on-line . Or arrive a wee bit early the day of the event.

While in La Conner don’t forget to stop at the La Conner Visitor Center, located at 511 Morris St. Pick up a visitor guide, map, dining guide and much more to make your stay in La Conner not only easy to navigate but a memorable experience!
