Birds of Winter

Skagit Valley and La Conner offer an authentic experience in many ways and nothing is perhaps more unique and beautiful than the annual migration of birds into this inviting part of Washington State. Providing an ideal wintertime habitat for hundreds of different types of bird species, the farmlands and wetlands as well as the prairies and forests along with the local marine environment provide for the ideal habitat for a host of different species of birds.

Snow Geese La Conner

Saturday January 25th - La Conner Birding Showcase!

You know winter is almost here when the farm fields surrounding La Conner turn white - with Snow Geese and Trumpeter Swans. The birds annually migrate southward by the tens of thousands from nesting grounds in Siberia and Alaska. The Skagit Valley is one of their major wintering grounds, with more than 50,000 birds typically stopping over between as early as October and the La Conner Daffodil Festival in March.

The Joys and Perils of Bird Photography

What do you need for bird photography? Primarily, patience. While birds won’t complain that their portrait makes them look fat, they also won’t hang around and wait for you to get the lighting just right.

The Amazing Birds Of Winter Experience

Skagit Valley and La Conner offer an authentic experience in many ways but nothing is perhaps more magical than the annual migration of birds into this inviting part of Washington State. In honor of these birds, we welcome you to the first La Conner Birding Showcase as part of the Birds of Winter Experience!
