The Dandy Daffodil Tweed Ride – La Conner Daffodil Festival 2015
The Dandy Daffodil Tweed Ride – March 28th
Join us in La Conner for the Daffodil Festival 2015 and ride among the daffodil fields for a dashing bicycle ride with a bit of style. It’s a perfect place to be planted and a beautiful place to bloom. Tally-ho! What is a tweed ride you may wonder! A tweed ride is a return to a bygone era in England when families would dress in their best clothing, assemble a picnic lunch, get on the train with their bicycles and go out to the countryside. Riding their bicycles home.
What would be better than a group ride among fields of daffodils in which the cyclists dress in classic tweed or any smart looking outfit. Any effort made to recreate the spirit of yesteryear is also always appreciated. Any and all bicycles are acceptable on the Tweed Ride. Its a smashing way to throw a party for all our cycling friends to celebrate the arrival of Spring.
Riders should expect a scenic route enjoyed at a slow pace, stops along the way with exceptionally evocative atmospheres, and plenty of time to socialize with other well-dressed, convivial cyclists.

9:30AM-10:30AM (Saturday, MARCH 28th)
The Festivities continue in front of the La Conner Channel Lodge, located at 205 North 1st Street, at the most respectable hour of 10 (ante meridiem) on Saturday March the 28th.
“Inquiring minds may ask, why, Sirs, do you insist upon 10AM? To this we shall reply, that after a most thorough and scientifically sound analysis of the diurnal habits of the native tweed rider (Herringbonius Velocopedus), our team of experts have determined that they require increased social interaction, along with the quaffing of a plethora of potables and a variety of victuals. As naturalists, we desire to create as close to a natural habitat for these delicate creatures as possible.”With this in mind, we propose that the Tweed Ride should have a Brunch Picnic! This will give those slightly more nocturnally-inclined individuals of the species time to catch up with us. So please BYOB (Brunch)!
At half-past 10:00AM (SHARP)
We shall ride like the wind! Well… a slow, polite, and Jolly wind, anyway.
10:00AM – 2:00PM
We have been granted with a very horizontal riding surface. Many millennia ago, the ice age melted and produced miles of delightful riding. Alright the ice age had nothing at all to do with it, but there are plenty of smashing flat roads and beautiful scenery to savor. This will give you an ample amount of time to enjoy the ride.
11:00AM – 1:00PM (Picnic)
After the photographs of daffodil’s are taken, you might fancy a picnic brunch mid way through the journey. Of course dining al fresco is an art all of its own, and we encourage you to pack a beautiful picnic basket for our brunch. Dispense with the good silver, but do remember to pop a colorful blanket in the basket to spread and enjoy a spot of tea and cookies. Perhaps a scone or lemonade? Maybe you’ll partake in a ripping good game of croquet or badminton?
2:00PM – 6:00PM (The After Party)
Our great adventure shall conclude around 2PM at the La Conner Channel Lodge. Not-so-coincidentally the very same location where we began and in close proximity to our Dear Friends at Hellam’s Vineyard where the hobnobbery and other diversions await! Isn’t it amazing how these things work out?
In addition to this celebration, special Awards of Achievement shall be given to the brave and intrepid souls who exceed all others by displaying their prowess as well as various and a sundry talents.
