Discover the Beauty of the Pacific Northwest with Tandem Wheels Photography

Nestled in the heart of the Skagit Valley, Tandem Wheels Photography is more than just a business—it’s a labor of love, a journey, and a way of life for Sean and Amie Wheeler. With deep roots in the Pacific Northwest, this dynamic husband-and-wife team has turned their passion for photography into a thriving business that celebrates the stunning landscapes and vibrant community of La Conner and beyond.

The Story Behind Tandem Wheels Photography

For Sean and Amie Wheeler, photography has always been a shared passion. “When Sean and I first met, we both loved photography. But as we grew up, life got more expensive, and we had to focus on our financial responsibilities instead of our hobbies,” Amie recalls. “So, we put our cameras away for a while to take care of our family.”

But a decade ago, their passion was rekindled. As their two children grew older, the couple found themselves drawn back to their creative roots. In 2020, Sean gifted Amie her first digital camera for her birthday—a pivotal moment that set them on the path to creating Tandem Wheels Photography.

“Since our last name is Wheeler and we both enjoy capturing special moments, the name ‘Tandem’ felt perfect. It represents two people working together, highlighting our shared commitment to our craft,” Amie explains.

Finding Home in Skagit Valley

Originally from Oregon, Sean and Amie moved to Anacortes, Washington, in 2005 for work. They quickly fell in love with the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. “The area’s breathtaking mountains and close access to the ocean stole our hearts. It reminded us of our homes in Oregon,” Amie shares. “When we found our house in Glenhaven, we knew we had found the perfect place to settle down and raise our family.”

This deep appreciation for the region’s landscapes is evident in their work, from the towering North Cascades to the serene San Juan Islands, from the snow geese migrations to the vibrant daffodil and tulip fields of Skagit Valley. Each photograph they take is a testament to the beauty that surrounds them.

Capturing and Sharing the Magic

Tandem Wheels Photography offers an exquisite collection of fine art prints that bring the Pacific Northwest to life. Available in various formats—including canvas, metal, and vibrant paper prints—these images make the perfect addition to any home or office. “We want people to be able to see familiar places and picture exciting adventures in their own backyard,” Amie says.

In addition to fine art prints, Tandem Wheels also creates postcards, stickers, greeting cards, mugs, ornaments, and even puzzles featuring their stunning imagery. “We’re all about making art accessible to everyone because we believe in its amazing power to brighten everyday life,” Amie adds.

Overcoming Challenges & Growing Stronger

Like any business, Tandem Wheels Photography has faced its share of challenges. One of the biggest obstacles was the financial investment required to launch their venture. “Building a platform is an important step in today’s society, and we’re still working on its development,” Amie admits.

A particularly frustrating setback occurred when they accidentally misprinted a batch of 2024 calendars. “We couldn’t sell those calendars as they were, so we had to fix the issue and print new ones. It was disappointing and led to financial losses,” Amie explains. “But instead of letting it bring us down, we turned it into a marketing opportunity. We used the misprinted calendars as handouts at events, which helped introduce us to potential clients. In the end, it actually brought us more social media followers and increased our 2025 calendar sales.”

Giving Back to the Community

Tandem Wheels Photography is committed to being an active part of the local community. Though they are relatively new to La Conner, they have been part of the Valley for over 20 years. “We truly value our community because these are our neighbors and friends,” Amie shares.

They recently joined the La Conner Chamber of Commerce and participate in local events such as Art Under the Stars, a monthly gallery walk held every second Saturday from 4 PM to 8 PM. Additionally, they have donated artwork to various events and have provided gallery equipment for the 2025 Birding Festival.

To further support local artists, Tandem Wheels Photography has created a community wall where emerging talents can display their work. “If you’re an artist looking for a place to showcase your creations, we would love to connect with you!” Amie says.

Looking Toward the Future

Tandem Wheels Photography has big dreams for the future. Their long-term goal is to establish a successful fine art gallery in La Conner while continuing to grow their business. “We aspire to reach a point where we can offer small group or one-on-one photography classes and eventually expand to include headshots and family portraits,” Amie says.

In the short term, they are focused on building their portfolio and growing their social media presence. “We’re excited about our goals and plans for the future, and we hope to still be here in five years!” Amie shares.
