La Conner Birding Festival Takes Flight to Celebrate the Rich Avian Diversity of Skagit Valley and La Conner

The eagerly awaited annual La Conner Birding Festival is poised to grace the skies on February 3rd and 4th, 2024, inviting bird enthusiasts to immerse themselves in a weekend of avian wonder. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Skagit Valley and La Conner, this year’s festival promises a captivating experience, featuring local artists, educational opportunities, interactive displays, and delightful children’s activities.

Skagit Valley and La Conner, renowned for their authentic charm, provide an ideal wintertime habitat for hundreds of bird species. The convergence of farmlands, wetlands, prairies, forests, and marine environments creates a unique haven for migratory birds, drawing them from as far as Siberia and Alaska.
Inaugurating the La Conner Birding Showcase as part of the Birds of Winter Experience, the festival pays homage to the awe-inspiring annual migration of these majestic creatures. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to witness and learn about a myriad of bird species that call Skagit County home during this season.

Incredible Fertile Valley: Skagit County’s fertile lands stand as the perfect natural feeding ground for various bird species, making it one of Washington State’s most anticipated annual events.

Learning About Migratory Birds: Attendees can immerse themselves in the natural wonder of migratory birds through classes, discussions, and talks led by experts in the field. Workshops and tours offer unique experiences, including viewing majestic Eagles along the Skagit River.

Opportunities Abound Everywhere: From the Skagit Flats to Samish Flats, Fidalgo Island, the upper Skagit River, and other unique birding sites, Skagit Valley provides countless opportunities to witness nature’s most impressive birds, such as the Snow Geese, Short-Eared Owls, Killdeer, American Kestrel, Northern Pintail, and the Red-Tailed Hawk.

Guest Speaker: Renowned author and artist Tony Angell will be the featured speaker on Saturday evening. His presentation, titled “For Ravens, Crows, and Other Birds, Timing is Crucial,” promises a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain insights into these fascinating creatures.

Hours : Saturday doors open at 10:00AM with guest speaker beginning at 6:00 PM.
