Wood Merchant Open Every Day for Holiday Shopping!

The Wood Merchant is open every day for the rest of the year (except for Christmas day) and filled to the brim for your holiday shopping!  You will be stunned at the depth of local talent on display.

The Wood Merchant is a wonderful store stocked with very reasonably priced small treasures to masterpieces. “If you have the budget they also offer incredible, jaw-dropping, ‘how do they do that’ works of art that your children will gladly inherit.  My favorite ‘never disappoints’ gift from here is a set of beautifully carved salad serving spoons,” says local guide, Olivia Cornwell.  “Topping off the quality art is the friendly service offered by everyone who works here. It is a pleasure to lose yourself for half an hour in an artist’s ability to turn a piece of plain wood into the sublime – amazing!” exclaims Cornwell.

Get To Know The Wood Merchant

As you look in the windows it is easy to imagine relaxing within the gently sweeping curves of the handcrafted rocking chairs or seating your guests at one of the custom made dining tables that the gallery offers. Once inside you can feel the velvety smooth finishes that have been accomplished by hours and hours of meticulous sanding and finishing. By offering La Conner shoppers a specialty gallery of finely crafted furniture and gifts, The Wood Merchant has become a true destination spot.

The gallery was opened in 1983. Originally it began in a small 300 square foot space just off the main shopping strip on a side street with only three artists showing their works. It quickly became apparent that more room was needed so in 1986 they moved the gallery to the much busier First Street and built a showroom that included two stories along with an entire wing devoted to custom-built furniture. Now there is over 3000 square feet of showroom space.

All the products sold at The Wood Merchant are made by American Artists along with a few select Canadian artists. You are supporting American Craftsmen with every purchase.

What Folks are Saying

Omg! This place is amazing. Kaleidoscopes, cutting boards, jewelery, and more. So much to see I didn’t even go upstairs. I got these laser etched Orcas for a very reasonable $10. And these wood inlay earrings for under $20. They had gifts ranging from $5 to $1500!! Could spend all day just looking at the wooden art.

What a brilliant shop with a massive range of incredible wood products. The craftsman who make these products are first class. Prices are below the real price when you take into account time and labour. Great to see local quality. Keep up the good work fellas. Highly recommended.

I’m a Woodworker from Arizona and I wish I had places like this there. Incredible collection of so many woodworkers’ creations to supply the inventory here. Definitely an inspiration to my work.
