Family Vacation Fun – July 4th in La Conner!

La_Conner_July_4th_Family_VacationLooking for a Family Vacation? La Conner breaks out the red, white and blue on July 4th, and we’d love to have you join us for a whole lot of family fun!

It all starts in the morning – when our famous 4th of July Parade winds along the main streets of La Conner. This year’s theme is “Salute to Farmers” – very fitting for our globally-known, agriculturally-based Skagit Valley. The parade is a blast – you can watch from the sidelines or even participate … bring your kids, your dogs, your bikes, old cars … exotic pets … anything goes in this wacky and wonderful Independence Day celebration. Costumes are always welcome, and using this year’s theme provides for a lot of creative ideas. Line-up for the parade is at 11am, on State Street behind the La Conner Retirement Inn. The parade begins at 11:30.

After the parade, be sure to join us in Pioneer Park, adjacent to the Rainbow Bridge for our annual July 4th Picnic. Kiwanis Club of La Conner will sell hot dogs, chips and sodas, or you can bring your own picnic lunch. Promptly at 1pm, there will be a costume judging from the morning’s parade theme of “Salute to Farmers”.

Spend the rest of your day touring around our beautiful valley – produce stands will be full of early summer veggies and gorgeous locally-grown berries and ice cream stands will offer cool and yummy treats. Take some time to do a bit of summer shopping in our local stores, or perhaps drive over to Deception Pass State Park; it’s great fun to collect cool rocks and fly kites along the beach.

There are lots of dining options in La Conner – during July the locally-sourced produce and seafood will be the star of the menu show; be sure to ask, “What’s fresh tonight?”

If you’re planning to stay overnight, we have lots of options – you can rent an entire B&B and bring your extended family or a group of friends, we also have romantic B&B’s, waterfront lodging, a restored hotel and a variety of rental properties.

La_Conner_Fireworks_Family_VacationOnce it starts to get dark, you’ll want to secure a spot along our waterfront (there are many spots to choose from), or on top of our residential hill above town, for our professionally presented La Conner Fireworks Show, which begins at approximately 10pm. The fireworks will be shot from across the Swinomish Channel – a big thank you to the Swinomish Tribe for providing a safe spot for our pyro-technicians to work.

Whether you’re looking for a family vacation that takes in several days, or one that is just one, perfect-day long, La Conner’s July 4th celebration offers a ton of fun for your whole family!
