Get Ready For The Annual La Conner Smelt Run

The La Conner Rotary sponsors the annual Smelt Run every year offering fun and good will to La Conner and the Valley. In fact, the Smelt Run supports a number of important key institutions in the local community. For example, the La Conner Library Foundation is a benefactor of the event where proceeds will go to support the efforts that are underway to develop a new La Conner regional library. While recently a state grant was approved, there is still much work to be done to achieve the goal of having a new and vital resource available to area residents in the form of a regional library.

Scholarships For Seniors Getting Ready To Head Off To College

In addition, the La Conner Booster Club also gains clear benefit this year from the 2018 Smelt Run. The booster club supports a wide variety of extracurricular activities at the La Conner Middle School as well as the high school. This includes everything from appreciation events for staff members to even scholarships for seniors getting ready to head off to college. The Smelt Run begins each year in historic La Conner Washington and is comprised of a flat course that winds through many of the key farmlands located in beautiful Skagit Valley.

In Past Years The Weather Has Been Very Cooperative

Happening on Saturday, February 24th of this year, the Smelt Run is well worth attending for people of all ages. Best of all, top winners in various age categories will receive medals of accomplishment. There is even a free kids dash as well as a 5K, 10K and two-mile walk. Keep in mind that in many previous years, the weather has been very cooperative and there is a chance the daffodils will be starting to bloom. When it comes to great food for the race, participants can expect hot soup made with delicious local ingredients. Also readily available will be homemade bread, fruit and coffee as well as ample amounts of water that is always free following the race.
