Marci’s Corner – May 1, 2012

May has arrived!  It’s one of the most beautiful months of the year with everything blooming, longer days, warmer temperatures and a celebration of Mothers everywhere.

Hopefully many of you were able to visit the Skagit Valley to see the many fields of daffodils and tulips last month.  Although not as brilliant or famous as our tulip fields, RoozenGaarde has planted four fields of Iris in the Valley that will bloom in May – you can find the fields by visiting the bloom Map at tulips.com.

This month brings the first annual Garden Day Art Festival to La Conner.  Activities will spotlight artists, galleries and gardens through delightful storefront window displays and a Flora/Fauna feature exhibit at the Civic Garden Club building from 11am-4pm both days. Visitors will be treated to, and able to purchase, artwork from La Conner’s many galleries, plants for their gardens and attend artist demonstrations.

As an added benefit, the weekend of May 4 & 5 in La Conner is a busy one with several opportunities to listen to live music, taste wine, and even watch the annual Opening Day Boat Parade on Saturday starting at 3pm, and a “Show ‘n Shine” car show on Sunday, May 6th at the La Conner Marina from 10am to 2pm.

If you are in La Conner on the 31st be sure to enjoy our annualSpaghetti Sauce Taste-Off at Maple Hall.  Try a sample of sauce from 10+ restaurants and vote on your favorite.  Then enjoy spaghetti dinner, bid on an auction item and enjoy wine or beer with your meal.  This is a fundraiser for the hanging flower baskets that line Morris and First Streets.

Happy Mother’s Day!
