New Owners of Tillinghast Postal & Business Center

When the Tillinghast Postal & Business Center became available for sale by Lucy Kelly, Chris and Christi King jumped at the opportunity.  As a child, Christi came to La Conner with her family frequently. Her father and mother, Ron & Erlene Cooper, loved antiques and would frequent Nasty Jack’s. Ron also had a love for Birds of Prey, and no better place to see Eagles, Owls, Falcons, Hawks than the Skagit Valley.

Get to Know Chris and Christi King

Chris and Christi King moved from Lake Stevens to La Conner five years ago. Christi has long wanted to be a part of this local community and own a business in town one day. Both Chris and Christi have retired from Boeing, Chris five years ago, Christi in October of this year.

Christi’s previous 35-year career at Boeing was in Supply Chain, Shipping & Distribution, and point of use delivery of products to build airplanes. The Tillinghast Postal & Business Center allows Chris and Christi to get to know the residents and to continue their love for Postal, Shipping, and Business Center activities.

Seamless Transition to New Owners

Chris and Christi will be keeping the existing business exactly as Lucy has established it to minimize any disruption to existing customers. “Lucy has been fantastic to work and train with,” says Christi.  Ginger Olson has also agreed to continue working through the end of February 2021 to train the new employee Adam McGarity, also a La Conner resident.

The Tillinghast Postal & Business Center, under Lucy’s leadership for the last eight years, provides required services to the community without having to leave the area. “We want to continue Lucy’s hard work to ensure a seamless transition of ownership and know that as new services are required, we will gladly find a way to accommodate our customers’ needs,” says Christi.

Getting to Know You

Chris and Christi believe the best part of owning a business in La Conner is getting to know all the residents, merchants, and farmers. When asked what they are most excited about, it’s getting to know all the customers/clients by name, just as Lucy has. “We want to carry on Lucy’s legacy of hard work and customer focus and we want to make Lucy proud as she moves into her new retirement adventures,” says Chris.
