Not sure what to do once you get here? We’ve got some suggestions to get you started.

History and Heritage
If you’re a history buff, you’ll love walking and exploring … history comes alive in La Conner! We are Skagit County’s oldest community – in 1869 the town was deeded to John Conner, who changed the original name of Swinomish to La Conner in honor of his wife Louisa A. The Civic Garden Club (still standing) was the first courthouse north of Seattle, and La Conner was briefly the county seat. The Rainbow Bridge and town of La Conner are listed on state and national historic registries; many original buildings have been restored and now house retail shops and restaurants. La Conner’s residential neighborhoods also offer a wonderful opportunity to appreciate historically significant, restored homes and gardens. Of special note is the Skagit County Historical Museum, at the top of the hill on 4th Street.

Art
Inspired by the proximity of mountains and forest, river and sea, and reflecting the changes in season, artists in the late thirties found a refuge in La Conner to nourish their creativity. What evolved is art unique to the Northwest – influenced by earth, water, and light, personal history and adventure, and Coastal Indian tradition. La Conner continues to inspire and reflect the work of artists – literary, performing and visual. Exhibits at the Museum of Northwest Art, and the La Conner Quilt and Textile Museum, in addition to numerous galleries, offer something for everyone, from wood carvings to glass work and from to textiles and framed art to exquisite jewelry and fine goods.

Dining
You’ll find La Conner’s dining scene a perfect match for a little romance – from a tucked-in-the-corner private booth (hand-holding expected!) to a waterfront view for two, or a chance to taste wine while relaxing along the channel with a deck-side view. Whether you’re in need of breakfast, lunch, an afternoon latte or ice cream, cocktails, wine or dinner, La Conner’s restaurants & cafes will delight and surprise you.
