The first weekend in October (Oct 5 & 6) the Skagit Valley is home to the annual Festival of Family Farms – where the family farms of Skagit Valley open their barns and lifestyles to you and your family. You’ll find opportunities for hands-on experience learning what it takes to run a farm (from crops to livestock to produce!) and enjoy a fun-filled weekend of festival activities including:
- educational exhibits
- farm tours, harvest markets
- gardening demonstrations
- free samples
- kids activities
- corn and hay mazes
- animal exhibits
- pumpkin patches
- scenic tours and more
Here’s a way to take in all the fall family getaway fun!
Start with breakfast in La Conner – a warm and satisfying scramble with hash browns or hot and gooey cinnamon roll should do just fine until lunch. Then, using the Festival Farm Map, you can head out to many of our outlying farms, or stick close to town, depending on how much time you have and how travel-comfortable your family members are.
If you’d like to visit all the farms, and have both Saturday and Sunday open, why not use the map to start with one group of farms, spend the night in La Conner, and then visit the rest of the farms on Sunday. We’ve got several family-friendly lodging options – check out our Stay page for more information.
While you’re in La Conner, be sure to do a little shopping -this time of year it’s fun to get your holiday shopping off to a good start … and miss the mad rush during November and December!
You’ll also find our restaurants brimming with the warm comfort foods of fall – with fresh farm produce as highlighted ingredients.
