Get Creative in La Conner!

La Conner is well-known for our art museums, art galleries, and sculpture walk.  But did you know we have several businesses that offer art lessons and art workshops?  And did you know you can take your own creative ideas to a local business for custom embroidery?  Introducing to you our spotlight feature on services in La Conner!  This month we are focusing on art!

Mystic Art Lessons

Our newest business in La Conner is Mystic Art Supply!  Mystic Art Supply will be opening soon and offering lessons for both online and in-person.  And what is Mystic about Mystic Art Supply? In 1953, Time Magazine released an article about four local artists – Mark Tobey, Morris Graves, Kenneth Callahan, and Guy Anderson.  These famous artists are accredited for creating the Northwest School of Art, dubbing them the “Northwest Mystics”. Bringing art and recognition to La Conner, these men made a huge impact on the art scene in Washington.  We can’t think of a better name for our newest art-related business in La Conner!

Clever Kathy Designs – Custom Embroidery

Kathy has always loved creating things with her hands.  When she was barely able to walk her other taught her mother sat her in front of the sewing machine.   Opening CleverKathy Designs fulfilled Kathy’s life long dream. “Finally I have the time, resources, and setting to make this dream a reality,” says Kathy. The possibilities of custom embroidery are as big as your imagination!

We just stumbled into Kathy’s shop while roaming through La Conner. We are so thrilled we did! She’s got some unique and funny slogans for t-shirts. We know it doesn’t take long because we watched her prepare a few of them. The greatest treasure we found was the ability for her to put our personal photos on aluminum, slate or ceramic tiles. She does it all right there and in fairly quick order…about an hour if they aren’t swamped. She did an 11″ x 14″ photo on metal and it looks fantastic and I love it. My friend had two 5″ x 7″ photos done on metal as well and she was thrilled with them. Kathy is so jolly and pleasant to work with, as is her employee, Yana. You really need to stop in her shop if you want to take home a unique gift or something for yourself. ~Susan Curtis
