Opening Day Boat Parade: Jungle Cruise

The 2022 Opening Day Boat Parade in La Conner is on May 7th and hosted by the Swinomish Yacht Club.  The theme this year is Jungle Cruise.  Hang out at the La Conner Marina and walk the La Conner boardwalk to take in the opening boat day festivities!

The Swinomish Yacht Club is located at the La Conner Marina. Although formed prior to WWII in 1939 (Milo Moore, then Mayor of La Conner, was the first Commodore) it was officially chartered in 1972. The Club was formed to promote safe boating practices and sponsor marine events designed to stimulate interest and family involvement in boating such as the 2022 Opening Day Boat Parade.

Because of the premier location in La Conner, the Swinomish Yacht Club has one of the largest rosters of reciprocal clubs in both Washington and British Columbia.  If you are unfamiliar with reciprocity, it is an agreement between clubs to exchange moorage.  With the participation of more than 75 clubs, diligent use of reciprocity can substantially offset the cost of annual dues.

Their current event schedule is at 15 club-sponsored events and dozens of other “un-events” throughout the year. Most events are in the north Salish Sea and the San Juan Islands. Some of the best and most beautiful cruising areas in the world!  In addition to on-the-water events, they also have a large clubhouse in La Conner that is used for large gatherings, and rentals for weddings and receptions. 

 

The town of La Conner is a beautiful historic town that has many small shops, but also great dining and many events throughout the year, such as the Tulip Festival.  Crowds gather for the SYC boat parades on opening day and again around Christmas. Along with the shops, there are world-class boating facilities that can haul, repair, or do regularly scheduled maintenance.
